Staff Associate (Socioeconomics Research Assistant)
Earth Institute at Columbia University, Millennium Village Project
Under the supervision of the Associate Research Scientist, the Staff Associate will be responsible for data cleaning, analysis, and reporting of research results. He/she will also be responsible MVP data system coordination and interacting with data teams in the field. The incumbent will work with the Millennium Village teams at the various sites in Africa to assure standardized methods and backstop their survey implementation activities. This includes tracking surveys, handling survey-related questions, and data entry template design. He/she will assist in developing data cleaning scripts in STATA and backstop database managers at the various sites in Africa in data processing and management. She/he will assist in the statistical analysis of survey data and preparing reports and publications based on those data. The incumbent will assume all other analytical and administrative tasks deemed necessary and assigned to him/her by the Monitoring and Evaluation Adviser.
Bachelor’s degree and a combination of education and experience are required. Master’s degree highly preferred. Previous experience and education with international development issues, preferably related to socioeconomic and agricultural research or research support. Experience with data and econometric/statistical packages such as STATA (preferred) or SPSS or SAS. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Experience in management and use of large datasets. Strong knowledge of statistics and basic econometrics. Excellent facilitation skills and ability to work well in multicultural and multidisciplinary teams. Previous experience traveling, living, and working in developing countries and willingness to travel. Research experience in rural Africa a plus. Speaking and reading French a plus. Previous experience/education in computer science. Knowledge of CSPro and survey processes.
