Research Scientists perform pre-clinical drug discovery (typically focusing on lead optimization) in a team or independent setting with minimal supervision or direction. This position requires a strong knowledge of synthetic chemistry and an understanding of the principles and practices of drug discovery.
Objectives
Research Scientists are expected to conduct research in the laboratory and be able to effectively access pertinent scientific information using various online resources, such as SciFinder and Reaxys. The ability and drive to develop new skills and knowledge, while delivering synthetic targets in the competitive CRO environment, is required. Initiative, experimentation, teamwork, mentorship, and a willingness to share knowledge with colleagues are essential. 
Minimum Requirements
Research Scientists must be able to demonstrate a strong publication record and be able to communicate diplomatically and clearly, both verbally and written, using technical terminology with co-workers and supervisor(s). A strong knowledge of common software applications such as Microsoft Office, ChemDraw, ISIS-Draw etc. is required. A successful applicant must be able to present and defend data. Industrial experience is an asset.
Other Requirements:
Applicants must have a clear criminal record and be Canadian or permanent residents of Canada, as required by Canadian immigration regulations, to work in Canada.

The Department of Physical &amp; Environmental Sciences at the University of Toronto Scarborough invites applications for a tenure stream position in the general areas of bioinorganic chemistry or inorganic chemistry related to the “greening” of chemical processes or energy generation at the rank of Assistant Professor commencing July 1, 2010. The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong, externally funded research program in the general area of inorganic chemistry and to play an active role in our undergraduate and graduate programs. The positions will have undergraduate teaching responsibilities in inorganic chemistry. 
Applicants must hold a PhD in Chemistry and have post-doctoral experience and have demonstrated excellence in teaching and research. We are particularly interested in applicants with interdisciplinary research interests that complement and enhance the existing strengths in the Department in the areas of environmental science and biological chemistry.

The Department has a newly established, state-of-the-art instrument facility, houses the Environmental NMR Centre and offers the opportunity for research collaboration with faculty in the physical, environmental and biological sciences. As a researcher, the successful candidate will establish a creative, high-impact research program based on external funding from NSERC and other agencies. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
