Job tasks
The research project will be part of the BattleX project funded by systemsx.ch. The goal of the whole consortium is to establish a genome-scale model of metabolic host-pathogen interactions and use it as a basis for novel strategies to combat infections. In this context, the goal of the post-doctoral project will be to discover and characterize human proteins that have been predicted, using bioinformatics analysis, to act as enzymes. The candidate will need to apply a wide panel of experimental techniques, from the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology and cell biology.
Profile requirements
PhD in biochemistry or enzymology.
Length of contract: two years, extendable to 4 years.

You will ensure that regular inventory procedures are completed in a timely manner according to SOP. SystemX.ch, the Swiss initiative in Systems Biology is supporting this interdisciplinary pilot project (IPP) because it explores a new research direction which, while being 'high-risk', is critical to Systems Biology. The conformational dynamics of these components in solution will be addressed by single molecule FRET experiments to understand their function and regulation. Mechanistic models of catalysis and regulation will be validated and refined systematically using in vitro and in vivo assays as readouts using well-developed pathogenic and non-pathogenic model system for c-di-GMP signaling."

Our joint project aims to identify general principles through which chromatin state, epigenetic modifications, and transcription factors cooperate to achieve cellular differentiation in mammals. Using functional genomics approaches we will obtain quantitative time courses of transcription and epigenetic states genome-wide in well-defined mouse differentiation systems. Data will be analyzed in close collaborations between computational and experimental groups. Predictive models will be tested by targeted genetics and genomics experiments.
