An opportunity has become available for an experienced scientist to lead our Mammalian Upstream Development Group.
Reporting to the Manager, Mammalian Process Development Facility, you will be responsible for:
• Conducting experiments to develop upstream cell culture processes for manufacturing Monoclonal Antibodies and/or other mammalian-derived products.
• Developing methods suitable for scale-up and production of pre-clinical material.
• Preparing technical reports, validation protocols, SOPs and process documentation.
• Leading and conducting studies to establish upstream platform processes suitable for production of multiple mammalian products. 
It is essential that Applicants have:
• Knowledge of biotech and pharma industry and development of mammalian-derived biological pharmaceutical products.
• A Degree in Chemical Engineering (preferred) or Biological Science, ideally with a related PhD. 
• A minimum of 2 years experience in development of protein products in cell culture.
• Experience of controlled bioreactor operation, medium and feed design for mammalian cells to meet target product release specifications.
It is desirable that Applicants have:
• Experience in monoclonal antibody production.
• Experience in bioreactor scale-up, technology transfer.
• Experience in application of Design of Experiments and other statistical techniques.
Salary package will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Theme Leader role is a pivotal appointment and requires a successful researcher with a track record in leading obesity research, including achievement in the management of research groups and projects. The Theme Leader provides strategic and scientific leadership for the Theme, reporting to the CSIRO Director of the Preventative Health National Research Flagship for research outcomes. You will be part of a Flagship management team that will interact with participating CSIRO Divisions, and determine the strategy, portfolio, budget and business plan of the Flagship and component Themes. 
The Theme Leader role involves liaising with government, industry and other research providers to ensure the Theme is relevant, competitive and aligned with the needs of industry and the community. The role requires an excellent understanding of the scientific challenges and opportunities in obesity as well as knowledge of the external environment and its relationship with the Theme.

The Honours and Postgraduate Scholarship Program provides opportunities in science and engineering for outstanding graduates who enrol each year at Australian tertiary institutions.
Each year, the Program supports honours and postgraduate scholarships for students to work on a project relevant to one of ten priority research areas. Students are co-supervised by researchers in an Australian university and CSIRO. In 2010 the Program will support a number of new Honours Scholarships and PhD Scholarships.
Honours Scholarship are available to students enrolled full-time in an eligible Australian Higher Education Institution during the term of the scholarship and who hold (or expect to gain) a degree from a recognised University and expect to undertake an Honours year.
Top-up PhD Scholarships are available to PhD students who have gained (or expect to gain), first class honours or equivalent in relevant research areas. They must also expect to receive an Australian Postgraduate Award (APA) or equivalent scholarship commencing in the year of the scholarship. Full scholarships are also available in certain circumstances.
