Due to their growth in the global marketplace through the launch of new products and market penetration our client is seeking an R&amp;D Manager who will strengthen their position as leaders in their field.
Reporting to the UK-based Business Director, the successful candidate will hold overall responsibility for the technical leadership for all sugar beet business within the group. She or he will be accountable for technical innovation and development of cutting edge products for the global marketplace. Other key responsibilities include working with operations to support the improvement of manufacturing consistency and throughput, in addition to the effective project management of key research and development activities.
To meet the demands of this high profile role you must come from a research and development or quality background and are likely to have had exposure to the food processing, agriculture or pharmaceutical sectors. Candidates will possess extensive experience within research and development (including field or clinical trials). You will have demonstrable experience in pushing forward levels of innovation. 
Applicants will ideally possess a degree/PhD or equivalent in Life Sciences or Chemistry. Excellent communication and numeracy skills are essential and an additional European language such as French or German would be desirable.

The successful candidate will conduct field and lab experiments on corn stand establishment and uniformity under stressful environments such as early-planting and no-till conditions. He or she will support the development of superior corn products by testing and characterizing stress tolerance and collecting early-season trait scores for research and commercial hybrids.
Position duration is May to August 2010. Duties/Responsibilities Conduct field and lab experiments to improve stand establishment and uniformity in stressful and no-till environments. Conduct experiments to measure and improve quality of research and comercial seed. Conduct experiments to evalute new seed treatments for improving early season performance. Educational Qualifications Desired Sophomore or higher standing with emphasis on agronomy, crop science, physiology or related field. Students in other biological sciences majors will also be considered. Competencies and Experience Desired Computer proficiency including statistical analysis. Good communication, interpersonal, and project management skills. Attention to detail and ability to work independently. Must be willing to perform field work and travel to research centers in the corn belt.
