The Tumor Team Leader will be responsible for the creation of disease-oriented strategies for the development of therapeutic compounds (“assets”) within the Pfizer portfolio. The team leader will provide up-to-date information on standards of care for specific cancers in every part of the world; track and communicate changes in standards of care as they may affect development of Pfizer compounds for specific cancers; track investigational therapies in or about to enter clinical evaluation for the cancers included with the team’s portfolio; track basic science advances related to specific cancers and provide an analysis of how those new insights might relate to the selection or prioritization of Pfizer compounds for evaluation in the specific tumor type; communicate and interact with Asset Teams and to the Translational Oncology Team in a matrixed fashion to develop strategies that can leverage those insights to develop therapeutic strategies with the highest likelihood for success in the most efficient and expeditious manner possible.
Deliver tumor strategy aligned with the asset strategies and the overall Oncology Business Unit strategy by providing leadership for the Tumor Team by integrating Asset Strategies for a tumor type from First in Patient clinical trials to Loss of Exclusivity for the compound. Lead the Tumor Team through seamless application of the tumor strategy across assets from First in Patient clinical trials to Loss of Exclusivity for the compound in a timely, cost-effective and quality manner.
Key responsibilities will include but are not limited to:
- Develop the tumor strategy to support Pfizer Oncology product pipeline. Prioritize asset opportunities in Pfizer Oncology portfolio for each of the various therapeutic settings.
- Provide each Asset Team with the guidance on the specific tumor strategy in relation to the overall asset profile for that specific tumor category.
- Develop tumor strategies which are cost-effective and look to de-risk the candidate and investments as early as practical
- Manage external relationships world wide (i.e., key opinion leaders, practice guidelines, regulatory agencies etc.) and maintains close lines of communication with clinical investigators considered to be at the cutting edge of treatment innovation
- Partner with the Asset Team Leader in the interactions with governance and other internal decision making bodies as appropriate
- Build a motivated, committed and engaged team. Model and expect effective team behavior to achieve the goals for that tumor category
Training & Education Preferred:
- Post-graduate medical training in oncology
- Experience in one or more of the following areas: GI, GU, Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, CNS, Hematology, Sarcoma, Head and Neck Cancer, and/or Melanoma
- Experience in drug development from an academic, biotechnology, or pharmaceutical industry perspective.
- Clinical research leadership experience (e.g.; writing and conducting multi-institutional clinical trials; chairing a disease committee in a national or international organization; leader of a clinical research group, etc.)
- Significant leadership/management experience
- Minimum of 7-10 years of relevant experience in the pharmaceutical, academic, and/or medical research environments.
Prior Experience Preferred:
- Board Certification in Oncology or Hematology preferred
- Demonstrated experience in successfully leading teams. Able to work in a matrixed- environment. Capable of recognizing when team interventions are required to enhance team effectiveness
- Knowledgeable of the commercial and market issues that drive late-stage development projects
- At least five years experience in Oncology Drug Development
