Tenure-track Positions, Centre for Stroke Recovery
Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine
Faculty of Medicine, University of Ottawa
The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine and the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute together with the Heart and Stroke Foundation Centre for Stroke Recovery (HSFCSR) wish to expand its strength in Neuroscience with a new initiative in brain recovery. Specifically, we are seeking dynamic individuals to fill several tenure-track positions at the junior level. The HSFCSR represents a major collaborative effort between three campuses in Ontario dedicated to novel approaches to stroke recovery. The successful candidates will possess a strong background in molecular neuroscience applied to clinically-relevant research in stroke recovery. Areas of particular research interest include neuroimmunology, molecular electrophysiology/imaging, animal modeling, cognitive assessment, proteomics, and bioinformatics. Outstanding candidates will be eligible for Canada Research Chairs. Successful candidates will have the opportunity to interact with the large contingent of neuroscience researchers distributed throughout the Faculty of Medicine and its affiliated research institutes, as well as within Federal government laboratories in Ottawa. Attractive start-up packages, along with brand new state-of-the-art laboratory space, are available to support this initiative. Candidates will benefit from protected time from teaching and administrative responsibilities for the first few years, but they will be expected to contribute to the teaching mission of the Department once their laboratories are established. Proficiency in both English and French would be an asset.
The Faculty of Medicine is located within a large, research intensive campus that includes basic medical science University Departments, several Research Institutes, and two tertiary care hospitals. The campus is home to more than 200 investigators whose primary focus is the development of innovative approaches to address mechanistic aspects of cellular function. More information on the Department can be obtained at: http://www.uottawa.ca/academic/med/cellmed
Interested individuals are requested to submit a curriculum vitae, a description of current and future research plans, and a list of at least three references to either:

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply; however, Canadians and permanent residents will be given priority. Equity is a University of Ottawa policy; women, Aboriginal people, members of visible minorities and persons with disabilities are invited to apply.
The University of Ottawa is justly proud of its 160-year tradition of bilingualism. Through its Official Languages and Bilingualism Institute, the University provides training to staff members and to their spouses in their second official language. At the time of tenure, professors are expected to have the ability to function in a bilingual setting. In certain cases, professors must have the ability to teach in both official languages to be granted tenure.
