Responsibilities
The department of Late Stage Pharmaceutical and Processing Development has an opening for a Group Leader position (Senior Scientist/ Scientist) leading a group of scientists and engineers to develop and implement formulations and configurations for late stage and commercial products for Genentech's protein therapeutics. The person will interact with the functional groups in the Development and Commercial Divisions and project core and CMC teams to define and oversee strategy for formulation development. The person will lead the design, selection and successful implementation of the product formulation, configuration, process characterization and process validation in collaboration with processing and/device engineers, analytical scientists, outside vendors, Contract Manufacturing, QC, QA, RA, Marketing and PK/PD departments. She/He will also ensure that state of the art formulation technology is being assessed and applied to Genentech's products. She/he will represent the department in various Strategic, Development and Implementation review committees and lead key initiatives. Responsible for 12Q resource planning and management. Responsible for identifying operational efficiency improvements and planning and implementing improvements cross-functionally. Must be capable of implementing change to business infrastructure to ensure pipeline, legacy and technology success. Responsible for planning and developing staff, identifying growth opportunities and mentoring so that all staff can realize their full potentials, as well as dealing with performance issues appropriately. She/he will provide support to the Director on strategic initiatives for PR&D.
Requirements
Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is preferred with related experience in formulation development or related biochemistry related areas of development (e.g. purification, stability, analytical). A broad knowledge of analytical methods, quality control, processing, device, regulatory, safety and clinical issues in development is desired. She/He will have a proven record of taking numerous projects from inception to successful implementation and commercialization. Must have experience in successfully managing groups of scientists and engineers. Excellent communication, interpersonal and people management skills are required. Experience in change management preferred.
Education
The ideal candidates will have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Biochemistry or the equivalent
