Planar Energy Devices is a privately held emerging technology company that is dedicated to the development and manufacture of high energy density “solid state” batteries for commercial and OEM applications. Planar’s core technology will enable a new generation of lithium batteries that are safe, compact, and can be deployed in very flexible arrangements. Position Summary
The Senior Chemist will report directly to the CTO and is directly responsible for developing process technology for the deposition of lithium battery materials. The work includes developing new synthetic routes to electroless deposition of metal oxide based materials specifically for lithium batteries. The Senior Chemist works within interdisciplinary research teams and collaborates closely with internal and external customers to develop formulations for the next generation of products. This opening is for a position at the Company Headquarters in Orlando, Florida.

Main Responsibilities:
• Conducting experimental work, including setting up procedures, performing experiments, and keeping records of experiments
• Selection of deposition precursor compounds, solvents, and complexing agents
• Directing research teams working on different materials
• Interfacing with the characterization and evaluation team
• Reviewing data for accuracy and completeness
• Conduct standard data analysis
• Organize testing to support the creation of product datasheets and interface with customers regarding the performance of our products
• As needed, work closely with partner companies to advance the development of products and processes
• Publishes reports and/or presentations at regular intervals on assigned work projects.
• Ensuring documentation of experiment work in a lab notebook using best practices to ensure that the notebook may be used.
• Research and analyze open literature and patents related to the products or processes related to the assigned projects, and identify patent opportunities
• Follow all ISO and safety procedures to ensure compliance and help develop new SOP’s as required
• Selects and organizes installation of new equipment related to device construction and/or testing

Experience:
• Expert in physical or inorganic chemistry
• Extensive knowledge of electrochemical deposition of films
• Solid state device and printed electronics experience a plus
• Demonstrated ability to formulate, plan, and conduct research with defined objectives and deliverables within budget and on schedule
• At least 10 years working directly in the area of formulation and design.

Education:
• Ph.D. in Physical or Inorganic Chemistry or a closely related field
