The SIB Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics, is an academic non-profit foundation whose mission is to provide core bioinformatics resources to the national and international life science research community and to coordinate the field of bioinformatics in Switzerland.
We are looking for a highly motivated scientific programmer to join our project team working in the field of automated protein structure prediction servers and protein structure model databases. We are collaborating with the leading institutions of the PSI Protein Structure Initiative in developing the Protein Model Portal of the Nature - PSI Structural Genomics Knowledgebase. We are seeking a highly motivated scientific programmer who will take responsibility for web site development as part of our programming team.
Requirements
We are looking for a highly motivated scientific programmer with background in computational sciences, software engineering, computational biology, or related fields with appropriate knowledge and experience. Excellent programming skills (PERL, Python, Java) and experience in practical applications of web technologies (php, AJAX, cgi, JavaScript), databases (MySQL), web services, and web servers (Apache) in a Linux/Unix environment are essential.
Successful candidates have strong communication skills and enjoy working in a dynamic development team. Practical working experience in an academic environment would be beneficial. Finally, applicants must have a strong desire to learn the specific requirements and algorithmic principles of applications in the field of bioinformatics and computational structural biology.

You will be working in a highly stimulating and international research environment as part of the Research core program “Computational and Systems Biology” at the Biozentrum, University of Basel and the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. The salary offered is according to the guidelines of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics. The position is available immediately, starting date upon agreement.
