The Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard seeks a RESEARCH SCIENTIST, Broad Institute-Center for Cancer Genome Characterization, to serve as the lead biologist as part of the Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). Will design, develop, and execute cancer genome characterization studies, including high-density SNP array studies, gene expression profiling, and sequencing/cancer gene mutation detection methods. Will also participate in developing strategies for cancer genome analysis using new technologies; work collaboratively with TCGA project team and outside collaborators to process and analyze genomic information from tumor samples; track workflow and samples for specific projects across various technology platforms; and perform background research, data analysis, biological interpretation, and writing for multiple purposes and design and execute specific follow-up analysis. Additionally, will regularly communicate accomplishments and progress to internal steering committee and TCGA project team; serve as key resource for project design, analysis methods, and technical questions; and help develop new informatics tools by providing specifications and testing.
REQUIREMENTS: a Ph.D. and experience in biology, genomics, computational biology, cancer biology, or biochemistry. Will consider those who have completed or will be completing Ph.D. studies, a post-doctoral fellow, or an experienced industrial or academic scientist. Presentation experience a plus. Some supervisory or project management experience desired, including the ability to set reasonable goals and ensure that they are met. Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with multidisciplinary staff in a fast-paced environment required. Must be able to handle a variety of tasks, effectively solve problems with numerous and complex variables, and shift priorities rapidly.
