The General Practice Research Database (GPRD) is the largest validated Primary Care database in the UK. It is a crucial resource in the development of innovations in the field of drug safety assessment. Using GPRD in conjunction with other European database resources we are working towards developing new methodologies to investigate the safety of medicines. Positioned within the MHRA, the independently run GPRD unit is collaborating in the pan European ‘PROTECT’ programme.


Your role will involve carrying out epidemiological analysis and research related tasks on a day-to-day basis. Additionally, you will be required to contribute to various other projects associated with the GPRD. You will also be involved in the development of new systems and processes for analysis.

You will have a post-graduate degree, or equivalent, in a related scientific discipline and experience of undertaking epidemiological research employing large data sets. Your ability to analyse, and interpret results from, large data sets will also be key as will strong communication skills and a pro-active approach. This research could lead to a PhD in Epidemiology.
