Serve as an active team member to provide technical support for a comprehensive product development, characterization, and commercialization program at the Eau Claire, Wisconsin Corn Research Center. Support all phases of planning, trials execution, data collection and quality assurance of field and laboratory experiments designed and conducted to meet the objectives of the Research Center. Duties/Responsibilities Assists scientists and research associates with field research activities including planting, pollinating, nursery harvest, and combine harvest.
Assists with miscellaneous tasks such as shelling, cleaning, handling, packaging, shipping and storing field or laboratory material following all processes and procedures.
Operates and maintains complex field Research equipment including tractors, research plot planters, sprayers, irrigation equipment, and research combines.
Work effectively as a team member with others at a multi-project Research center to ensure that company goals and deadlines are met.
Ensures that necessary machinery, material and technical preparations for conducting laboratory or field experiments are organized and ready in timely fashion.
May have limited accountability for overseeing and/or directing the work of others. Generally part-time employees on short-term basis.
Compiles and records information, sometimes using computer.
Ensures all operations are completed in a safe manner. Assess and improve safety practices to meet safety goals for reportable incidents, zero lost workdays, and environmental standards.
Job will require occasional travel and extended hours with weekend work during seasonal workload peaks.
May request or purchase supplies.
Continuous training for Compliance purposes. Educational Qualifications Desired Minimum of a high school diploma and 2 - 4 years related experience required, or equivalent amounts of relevant education and experience. Associates Degree in an agricultural or science discipline preferred. Competencies and Experience Desired Experience operating farm equipment.
Mechanical aptitude coupled with computer knowledge to effectively operate sophisticated research equipment.
Basic knowledge of agronomy crop production, plant development, and experimental field plots design. Ability to gain competencies with various research field and data collection equipment as well as necessary computer and data collection hardware and software.
Possess or be capable of obtaining a Commercial Driver's license and a Commercial Pesticide Applicator license.
Ability to perform physical labor and work outside in varying environmental and ergonomic conditions.
Strong self-motivation and ability to initiate projects, make decisions, and effectively solve problems.
