As a member of Vaccine Research East – Early Development group, the qualified candidate will be responsible for developing and qualifying analytical methods (in line with ICH guidelines) using industry leading technologies for characterization and release of polysaccharides, proteins, glycoconjugates and their intermediates. The candidate will work across multiple analytical functions and cross functional project teams. The candidate will also serve as technical counsel to senior leadership and is expected to train and mentor other scientists.
- Development of assays for characterization of polysaccharides, proteins, conjugates and potential process residuals.
- Development of in-process assays to support process development for polysaccharide expression, purification, monitoring of conjugation processes and glycoconjugate purification.
- Design and development of analytical assays for testing the stability of polysaccharides and glycoconjugates.
- Execution of assays qualification and the transfers of developed methods.
- Development of technologies with a focus on gaining insight into sites of conjugation in polysaccharide and protein components of glycoconjugates.
- Author reports, technical documents, generate appropriate documentation for transfer of the methods
- Contribute portions of patents, regulatory documents or manuscript as required
- The candidate will also train staff in specific technologies and supervise their work as needed.
- Maintain a safe and productive work environment. Maintain an accurate and reliable laboratory notebook. Maintain broad overview of relevant scientific literature
Education & Experience:
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry or related field + 4-years experience.
- 2+ years of industrial experience in assay development are required..
- The candidate should have expertise in physicochemical and structural characterization of complex carbohydrates, physicochemical characterization of glycoconjugates.
- Knowledge and practical experience in the analytical assay development and assay qualifications.
- Extensive experience in the development of novel protocols and methods using the following technologies, i.e. LC-MS, GC-MS, NMR, MALS/AFFF and HPAEC-PAD.
- Publications and/or patents are a must.
- Experience in training analytical scientists in a team environment.
- Experience with ICH guidelines is desirable.
Technical Competencies:
- Independent planning.
- Practical experience in liquid chromatography, LC-MS, GC MS, MS, NMR, HPLC, MALS/AFFF and HPAEC PAD is required.
- Structural characterization of complex carbohydrates, linkage analysis is required.
- Good communication/presentation and writing skills are required.
