A postdoctoral fellowship is available to pursue cellular mechanisms of synaptic transmission and neurotransmitter uptake. Our studies use electrophysiological recordings and Ca2+ imaging from neurons and glia in brain slices. Projects include studying the role of glutamate transporters in synaptic transmission. Our laboratory is in the Department of Neurobiology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Our department offers a collegial and creative environment with state of the art facilities. The city of Birmingham is listed among the most livable cities in the United States and is praised for its diverse residents and affordable housing prices. Salary is commensurate with NIH guidelines. Earliest start date is January 7, 2009.

Minimum qualifications: Candidates must have a Ph.D. and training in ion channel physiology/biochemistry, or calcium imaging.

Preferred qualifications: Experience with electrophysiology.
