This internship is in the Seed Science group in Maize Product Development. The successful candidate will conduct field and lab experiments on corn stand establishment and uniformity under stressful environments such as early-planting and no-till conditions. He or she will support the development of superior corn products by testing and characterizing stress tolerance and collecting early-season trait scores for research and commercial hybrids.
Position duration is May to August 2010. Duties/Responsibilities Conduct field and lab experiments to improve stand establishment and uniformity in stressful and no-till environments. Conduct experiments to measure and improve quality of research and comercial seed. Conduct experiments to evalute new seed treatments for improving early season performance. Educational Qualifications Desired Sophomore or higher standing with emphasis on agronomy, crop science, physiology or related field. Students in other biological sciences majors will also be considered. Competencies and Experience Desired Computer proficiency including statistical analysis. Good communication, interpersonal, and project management skills. Attention to detail and ability to work independently. Must be willing to perform field work and travel to research centers in the corn belt.
