Histologist

We are currently looking for a Histologist with proven necropsy experience working within the pharmaceutical or contract research industries.

Job Purpose:

Generate tissue samples and routine histologic slides for pathology evaluation (Pre-clinical toxicology studies (GLP & Non-GLP studies). Coordinate histology function, assure quality and timely delivery of histology products and train colleagues in histology techniques.

Major Duties:

The individual will be able to perform and train others in routine tasks within the histology laboratory. He or she will be able to organize histology for assigned studies and coordinate a variety of functions, from set-up through , necropsy (including data entry), tissue trimming, processing, sectioning, staining, and assuring technical quality of the specimens and studies. As appropriate, further specialization in the histology function may be available. The individual will have a proven ability to QC study specimens and records and trouble shoot equipment and processes. The post-holder will be expected to develop new procedures, techniques, write/maintain SOPs, and assist with laboratory functions and/or scheduling.

Organization, set-up, and conduct of histology activities for studies

Write and maintain SOPs and assist in organization of GLP relevant activities in histology / organize QC of study specimens and records

Perform necropsies and assist in processing tissues, and prepare histologic slides

Participate in all stages from set-up through, necropsy, tissue trimming, processing, slide cutting, staining, and assuring technical quality of the specimens and studies

Responsible for the operation and preventative maintenance of the equipment used in the histology laboratory

Maintains records of maintenance/repair/annual checks of each individual piece of equipment

Maintains adequate supplies and reagents for histology lab.

Prepare the preliminary gross pathology and organ weight data analysis for the pathologists

Trouble-shooting equipment and processes (making adjustments to ensure quality specimens)

Extensive work experience in GLP (Biomedical Science) laboratory and knowledge of biology

Significant experience training histologists, assisting in laboratory management task such as scheduling, organization of QC, coordination of tasks, etc.

Significant knowledge in all relevant aspects of GLP compliance

Has expert knowledge and skills in procedures, techniques and equipment

Can act as technical resource to others in this role

Can complete all assignments based on established procedures and general instructions.

Reasonsible for the safety of oneself and others according to published safety guidelines.
