Graduate Research Assistant: Canine Molecular Oncology
One year fixed term

We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to a project ultimately aimed at developing tests to more accurately predict the prognosis for dogs with mast cell tumours, and identify dogs of several breeds that have an increased risk of developing mast cell tumours.

This UK Kennel Club Charitable Trust-funded project is supported by the Golden Retriever Breed Council, the Labrador Retriever Club and the British Boxer Club.

In this project, you will:

• isolate DNA and RNA from tumour tissues and blood samples, perform quality assurance, and collate sample data
• perform quantitative RT-PCR assay of gene expression in archival mast cell tumour samples
• assist with the analysis of SNP genotyping data.

There are also likely to be opportunities to assist with gene expression profiling and array-Comparative Genomic Hybridisation analysis of a variety of canine tumours.

Previous training and/or experience of molecular genetics/molecular biology procedures, including DNA isolation and PCR, is desirable.

This position will be for a period of one year, commencing on 1st January 2010, with a salary of £21,193 per annum
