ASSOCIATE RESEARCH SCIENTIST POSITION:

The Department of Physiology and Cellular Biophysics at Columbia University seeks an Associate Research Scientist to study redox modulation of potassium channels and structure & function of urea channels.

The main role of the position will include express, purify, and biochemical characterization of membrane protein alone or in complex with soluble domains, kinetic studies of oxidoreductase, reconstitution of membrane proteins into proteoliposomes for radioactive tracer uptake, and data collection at the synchrotrons and structure determination by molecular replacement, MIR/SIR, MAD/SAD, or combination of two or more of these methods.

The candidate must have an M.D., Ph.D. degree or professional equivalent degree and prior experience (4+ years) and be a highly motivated person with a strong background in protein biochemistry including expression, purification, crystallization of integral membrane proteins for X-ray crystallography to lead a project that involves structural and functional characterization of transporters and channels. Experience in electrophysiology and confocal imaging is a plus.
